About Shawn Eller

Shawn Eller is a lifelong Louisiana resident raised in Natchitoches and has dedicated his career to serving families across Acadiana. A 2002 graduate of Tulane University, Shawn earned his degree in Sociology with a minor in Psychology before going on to receive his Juris Doctor from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 2005.

While at Loyola, Shawn developed a passion for family law through his work in the Family Law Clinic. There, he served as a student practitioner representing parents in custody matters and was appointed by the court to advocate for children in both district and juvenile court proceedings in Orleans and Jefferson Parishes. This early experience shaped his lifelong commitment to protecting families and ensuring that children’s voices are heard.

After completing law school and passing the bar, Shawn moved to Lafayette in 2005 to begin his legal career. Soon after, he met his wife, Monique. Together, they built a strong family foundation—Shawn proudly became a stepfather to Monique’s son and daughter, whom he later adopted. Their family has since grown with the addition of two more children.

Since 2014, Shawn has served as a Hearing Officer with the 15th Judicial District Court, where he handles family law matters across Lafayette, Acadia, and Vermilion Parishes. In this role, he presides over non-support dockets that help collect and distribute approximately $20 million annually in child support payments to families in the district. He also oversees divorce proceedings in Lafayette Parish, handles protective order cases in Vermilion Parish, and conducts conferences addressing custody, child support, and spousal support issues throughout all three parishes.

Before his appointment as Hearing Officer, Shawn served as a staff attorney for Judges Phyllis M. Keaty and Susan L. Theall in the 15th Judicial District Court Family Division. He also practiced law with Acadiana Legal Services and Theall Firm, LLC, focusing on custody disputes, support issues, and cases involving domestic violence.

Outside the courtroom, Shawn is a devoted husband and father who values time with his family above all else. Whether fishing on the water—a passion he has enjoyed since childhood—or playing beach volleyball with his daughter and friends, Shawn believes in staying connected to the people and community that have shaped his life.

Shawn Eller’s professional experience and personal commitment to family guide his work every day as he serves the people of Acadiana.
